AMESBURY — On Monday afternoon, the Lynnfield High boys’ lacrosse team beat Amesbury, 14-8, on the road on a warm, sunny day. With that victory, the Pioneers improved to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the Cape Ann League.

“We came out sluggish but got better as the game went along,” said Pioneers head coach Pat Lamusta, whose team had an 11-day layoff. “This was also our first game on a grass surface and it was very muddy.”

Lynnfield led the Red Hawks, 7-3, at the half as they outscored them, 7-5 in the second half.

“They are  much-improved than when we faced them the first time,” said Lamusta, as the Pioneers won the first meeting, 19-8, back on April 4.

The Red Hawks fell to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the CAL with the defeat.

Owen Considine and Mike Murphy led the LHS offense with four goals and one assist each. Paul Daley recorded a hat trick while John Powers scored twice.

Kelan Cardinal had one goal and two assists while Brendan Driscoll added one assist.

Kellen Farias led the team in ground balls with five.

Ben Pimentel improved to 7-2 in net as he made seven saves.

The Pioneers’ next game will be on May 1 as they host Hamilton-Wenham at 6 p.m. That is the team’s Senior Night as the six Pioneer 12th-graders will be honored.

Lynnfield is looking for the season sweep as they beat the Generals, 16-10, back on March 30.

On May 2, the Pioneers visit rival North Reading with that game starting at 4:30 p.m.
