LYNNFIELD — In spite of a heavy rainstorm on Monday afternoon, the Lynnfield High field hockey team blanked guest Ipswich by a final score of 3-0.

With that result, the Pioneers improved to 2-2 overall and in the Cape Ann League.

“We played well in the rain,” said Pioneers head coach Samantha Pindara. “We knew going in that Ipswich had a strong defense and they were able to shut us out in the first half.”

Taylor Valiton had three points with two goals and one assist. The junior forward scored the game’s first goal with 7:40 left in the third quarter assisted by Izzy Fiorentino.

Fiorentino’s older sister, Sophia, made it 2-0 with 12:49 remaining in the game with Valiton assisting.

Valiton found the Tiger net for the second time with seven minutes left assisted by Sophia Fiorentino for the final tally of the afternoon.

Lauren MacDonald did not have to make a save in net to improve to 2-2.

The game at Hamilton-Wenham on Sept. 13 was postponed and will be made up at the end of the season on Oct. 26.

Because of that postponement there was a week in-between games for the Pioneers as they were edged by host Essex Tech, 2-1, on Sept. 11.

On Sept. 20, the Pioneers host rival North Reading at 4:45 p.m. The next day, they welcome Beverly in a non-league game. That contest will start a little earlier at 4 pm.

Lynnfield then visits Pentucket on Sept. 25 with that game starting at 4 p.m. as well.
