LYNNFIELD — Lynnfield High girls’ track and field head coach Christine Smith handed out five awards at the team’s end-of-season banquet. The banquet took place along with the Lynnfield High boys’ team at LHS last month.

The MVP Award went to Abby Lopez. The junior was the team’s lone Cape Ann League All-Star as she made it in the two-mile.

As a sophomore last year, she was a CAL Second-Team All-Star but it was in the javelin.

Senior Emily Toscano, received the LAA Academic Award.

Vanessa Champy, a freshman, received the Rookie of the Year Award.

Two Pioneers were given the Coaches Award: seniors Maeve Donovan and Gabby Bottaro.

Donovan and Bottaro were also the two captains along with fellow senior Gia Marotta.

The captains for next year were also selected as Lopez, Shea Moore, Eliana Moretti, Aislin McCormack and Emrys Klee will take over.

Lopez, Moore, McCormack and Klee will all be seniors next year while Moretti will be a junior.

The Pioneers, who are in the CAL Baker Division, were 0-4 this year as they have one of the smallest rosters in the league with under 50 members.

Smith, who just completed her 10th-year at the helm, is hoping for numbers to improve next spring.
