Cross-country teams fall to Triton

NEWBURY — The cross-country teams fell to Triton on Oct. 4.

“The Lynnfield boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams both lost to very talented Triton teams,” said Pioneers head coach Bill Wallace. “This course was at Old Town Hill in Newbury, which is considered to be the toughest course in the Cape Ann League.”

The boys’ team (1-2) fell 25-30 to Triton. The lowest score in cross-country wins a meet.

Captain Shea McCarthy finished third during the meet (19:21). Senior captain Ryan Nguyen was fifth overall (20:37). Senior Brennan Curley placed sixth during the meet (20:31).

Sophomore Dylan Nguyen was seventh overall (20:35). Senior Owen White finished ninth against Triton (21:01). Jack Marenghi placed 12th during the meet (21:07). Senior Davius Chan was 13th against Triton (21:20).

Girls’ results

The girls’ team (1-2) fell 18-39 to Triton.

Junior Kaila George finished fourth in the meet (26:10). Senior captain Katie Cash was sixth overall (26:24). Sophomore Shea Moore placed eighth in the meet (26:53).

Freshman Maeve Wertz finished ninth against Triton (27:18). Junior Gabby Bottaro was 12th overall (28:29). Junior Caitlin Buoniconti placed 13th during the meet (28:33). Senior captain Viola Wertz finished 14th against Triton (28:34).

Upcoming meets

The Pioneers host Essex Tech on Wednesday, Oct. 11, beginning at 3:30 p.m. Lynnfield hosts Pentucket on Wednesday, Oct. 18, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
