BOXFORD — The Lynnfield High golf team competed in the MIAA Division 3 North Sectionals on Oct. 15 at Far Corner in Boxford on a sunny, cool day.

The Pioneers came in fifth place out of 11 schools with a total score of 343. Wilmington was first (331), Tewksbury and Manchester-Essex both tied for second at 333 as all three schools advanced to the Div. 3 state final at Blissful Meadows on Oct. 27.

Senior captain Drew George led the Pioneers shooting an 83 on the par-72 layout (Fox and Heron courses). Junior Jared Burke was second (85), junior Angelo Covino third (87) and sophomore Max Sabbagh fourth (88).

The two LHS scores that didn’t count belonged to Sam Bird (90) and Matt Mattia (91).

“I was very happy with the way we performed,” said Pioneers head coach Mike Moresco. “Far Corner is a fair but challenging course. Besides Drew, our only senior, the other five players that played for us are underclassmen.”

Lynnfield went 7-6 in the regular season and qualified for the sectionals by beating North Reading at home in the final match of the regular season at Sagamore Spring.
