LYNNFELD — It was a tough week for the Lynnfield High golf team last week as they lost both of their matches to fall to 3-3 on the year.
Last Thursday afternoon, the Pioneers fell to guest Hamilton-Wenham, 175-168, at Sagamore Spring.
It was the first home loss for the team since Sept. 8 of 2022 when they fell to Triton, 145-135.
“It was a good match between two evenly-matched teams,” said Lynnfield head coach Mike Moresco. “Their coach told me that this was the most points his team has scored all season. It used to be that 168 points would normally win you the match but the talent has gotten better.”
Senior co-captain, Paul Daley, led the team in points (Stableford scoring) with 35 while sophomore, Cam Dembro had 32.
C.J. Patermo had 28 points while Brady Cole had 25.
The final two scores that counted were Owen Doherty and Max Sabbagh who both had 24.
“I was impressed with how Hamilton-Wenham played,” said Moresco, as the Generals improved to 6-0.
The day before, the Pioneers lost to host Newburyport, 156-136 at Rowley County Club.
“Their coach runs a great program up there and they were consistent from player one through eight,” said Moresco.
Dembro scored 29 points while Cole had 27.
Patermo was third with 23 points while Drew George was fourth with 21.
Dailey had 20 while Sabbagh rounded out the Pioneers scoring with 16.
“Only two of our players have played Rowley before and the kids really didn’t play well,” admitted Moresco.
The next match for the Pioneers will be on Sept. 23 as they go to Ould Newbury Golf Club to take on Triton.
That match will start at 3:30 p.m.
