BYFIELD — The Lynnfield High baseball team split a pair of road CAL games against Pentucket and Triton last week, bringing their overall record to 5-3.

The Pioneers were edged by the Panthers 6-5 on a walk-off, April 22 at Pentucket High.

On Friday morning, they responded with a convincing 10-3 win over Triton at Eiras Park.

Lynnfield jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning against Pentucket when Tyler Adamo singled, Nick Groussis (2-for-3, 2RBI) reached on an error and Madux Iovinelli hit an RBI single that ended up scoring Groussis after another error.

The teams combined for four runs in the 5th. Walter Radulski (2-for-3, 2 runs scored) singled and later with two outs, Adamo walked and Groussis doubled home two runs to make it 4-1. The Panthers bounced back with two in the bottom half to make it 4-3.

Lynnfield pushed their lead to 5-3 in the 7th after Radulski doubled and came around to score on a ground out but the Pioneers couldn’t find any insurance which they would end up needing as the Panthers walked it off with 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th.

The Pioneers are once again positioned well in Div. 4 eight games into their 20-game season. They were ranked No. 2 in the first D4 power rankings released this week behind only Pittsfield (10-1).

Lynnfield hosted Ipswich on Tuesday after press time and will host Triton on Thursday at 4 p.m. before traveling to Newburyport on Saturday at 2 p.m.
