LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High boys’ soccer team doubled up Essex Tech 4-2, at home on Oct. 9 on a cool evening during the team’s Kicks for Cancer night. With that victory, the Pioneers went 1-0-1 against the Hawks this fall as the first game ended in a scoreless tie back on Sept. 9.

The Pioneers’ record improved to 8-1-4 overall and 7-1-4 in the Cape Ann League.

Midfielder Rocco Scenna scored the game’s first goal in the second minute with fellow senior captain, Mohammed Ayari, assisting.

In the 16th minute, Scenna struck again this time with the assist going to 10th-grader Colin Mauser.

The Hawks got on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute to cut the lead to one heading into the half.

Six minutes into the second stanza, Ayari made it 3-1 with Scenna assisting.

Scenna then recorded his second hat trick of the year in the 65th minute and that goal was assisted by Mauser.

“Not only does he do a great job scoring with 16 goals already but he helps us a lot in other areas as well,” said Pioneers head coach Brent Munroe, about the Bowdoin College bound senior.

Pioneers senior goalkeeper, Dino Gesamondo, made seven saves to go to 7-1-2.

On Oct. 7, the Pioneers tied Manchester-Essex 1-1 at home.

“They are much better than their record shows,” said Munroe, about the Hornets, who are in the CAL Baker Division.

Scenna scored the game’s first goal in the 18th minute.

The Hornets tied it with just over 12 minute remaining in the game as. Grayson Harden scored.

Gesamondo made eight stops in that game.

On Oct. 18, the Pioneers host Rockport at 5 p.m. as the LHS girls team is playing right before on Lynnfield Youth Soccer day.

Lynnfield then visits Amesbury on Oct. 21 at 4 p.m.

The Pioneers entered this week ranked 14th in the MIAA Division 3 power rankings.

The top 32 teams in each division, regardless of record, automatically qualify for the state tournament as the end of the regular season.
