Boys’ tennis moves to 2-1 with win over Crusaders

LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High boys’ tennis team improved to 2-1 last Thursday afternoon as they shutout host Bishop Fenwick, 5-0, in Peabody on a raw, damp day.

“They have a small team and are in the rebuilding process,” said Lynnfield head coach Joe Dunn, about the non-league Crusaders. “We were happy to get it over quickly with the cold weather.”

At first singles Harrison Luba won, 6-1, 6-0. Second-singles player, Dan Levin, won in shutout fashion, 6-0, 6-0, as did third-singles player, Shea McCarthy.

In doubles play, the first duo of Dave Kasdon and Rafik Khodr won 6-0, 6-0, as did the second team of Jason Yang and Russell Kasdon.

The day before, the Pioneers won their first Cape Ann League match of the season as they won, 5-0, at Amesbury on a warm, pleasant day.

Luba, Levin and McCarty all won, 6-0, in their three singles matches. For McCarthy, a freshman, it was his first-ever varsity win.

Dave Kasdon and Khodr won, 6-1, 6-0, while Yang and Russell Kasdon won, 6-0, 6-1.

“They lost their top two players from last year to graduation,” pointed out Dunn.

Lynnfield has this school vacation week off this week. They will return to action on Apr. 26th as they go to Newburyport. That match is at 3:30 pm.

On Apr. 28, they host North Reading at Lynnfield Middle School. That match will start a little later at 4:15 pm.
