WESTON — The Lynnfield high boys’ track and field team competed in the Div. 5 state meet over Memorial Day Weekend at Weston High. The Pioneers scored 11 points as a team to finish 24th out of 36 teams.
Joey Cucciniello had the best finish in any event for the Pioneers, taking 2nd overall in the triple jump with a leap of 43’02.5”. The sophomore finished a close 2nd to Swampscott’s Joey Do (43’05”) and will go on to compete in the event at All States. Do is a senior, making Cucciniello a strong candidate to go for gold next season.
Anthony Attubato was 7th overall in the pentathlon, earning valuable points for Lynnfield. The junior’s best individual event was in the shot put in which he got 3rd overall. Attubato later went on to get 17th in the long jump.
Cucciniello and Attubato also helped the 4×100 relay team score a point with an 8th place finish in 45.14. Sophomore Kyle Schmitz and junior Kevin Julian were the other two members of the squad.

The Pioneers had plenty more performances that stood out.
Sophomore Ryan DeBenedictis took 10th in the pole vault, clearing a height of 10 feet. Senior Dean Bey was 14th in the event, also clearing 10 feet on his last try.
Bey also took 15th in the high jump with a 5’06”. Senior Nickson Joseph was 17th in the high jump, reaching 5’06” in his second attempt.
Senior Mike O’Brien got 15th in the discus with a throw of 108’01”. Fellow senior Nick Marcinowski was 18th with a 101’07”.
Lynnfield took spots 18 and 19 in the javelin with sophomore Quinn Hardisty (128’05”) and junior Chase Goldberg (127’01”).
Junior Angelo DeLuca took 22nd in the 2 mile in a time of 10:52.95.
