Boys’ track takes 6th at CAL Championship Meet

BOSTON — It was a solid showing for the Lynnfield High boys’ indoor track and field team at the Cape Ann League Championship meet on Feb. 6 at The Track at New Balance in Brighton.

The Pioneers came in 6th place out of 10 schools with a score of 37 points. Newburyport was first with 80 points.

“It was a great night,” stated Pioneers head coach Christine Smith. “We swept the high jump and I was impressed overall with what we did.”

The top three competitors in each event medal while the top six score points.

In the high jump, Eli Mendese was first at 5’10”. Ethan Francis was 2nd (5’8”) and Dylan Reilly was 3rd (5’6”).

Mendese also broke the school record in the long jump (indoor) with a distance of 20’6”. He broke the jump of Nick Kinnon who held the record since 2017.

Sirvanth Tudi placed 6th in the two-mile with a time of 1:07.28.

The 4×200 relay team of Joe Cucciniello, Jessie Dorman, Charlie Morgan and Reilly captured third with a time of 1:36.77.

The next event for the Pioneers will be on Feb. 14 as they compete in the Division 5 State Meet. That meet will take place at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston and will start at 4:30 p.m.

In the regular season, the Pioneers finished in 2nd place behind Amesbury in the CAL Baker Division going 3-1.
