Boys’ track team improves to 2-0 with victory over Generals

BOSTON — The Lynnfield High boys’ indoor track and field team improved to 2-0 on Jan. 7 as they beat Hamilton-Wenham, 54-46, at the Track at New Balance in Boston.

The Pioneers had six individual winners in the met led by Eli Mendese who won three events. Mendese was first in the shot put (40-3), high jump (5-10) and long jump (19- 1.5).

The three other individual winners for the team were Nicholas Groussis in the 55-meter hurdles (8.99), Brendan Reilly in the 55-meters (7.09) and Jessie Dorman in the 300-meters (38.28).

The 4×200 relay team also won with a time of 1:37.

Lynnfield posted five second-place finishes: Reilly in the 300-meters (38.78) and high jump (5-6), Dillon Reilly in the 55-meters (7.16), Walter Radulski in the shot-put (36-1.5) and Mike Murphy in the long jump (17-6).

The Pioneers had four third-place finishes: Ken Waldron-Price in the 55-meter hurdles (10.97), Shea McCarthy in the two mile (10:59.63), Murphy in the high jump (5-4) and Dorman in the long jump (17-5.5).

On Jan. 25, the team will compete in the MSTCA Coaches Invitational (Small School). That event will start at 10 a.m.

The next dual meet for head coach Christine Smith’s team will be on Jan. 28 as they take on Amesbury at the Track at New Balance. That meet will start at 5 p.m.
