NEWBURYPORT — The Lynnfield High field hockey team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Nov. 3 as they were edged by Newburyport 4-3 on the road in the season finale. With that loss, the Pioneers ended up the regular season at 4-4-2.
With 10 total points, the Pioneers ended up in third place in the Cape Ann League Kinney Division behind Newburyport (16 points) and North Reading (12 points).
This was a tough defeat for the Pioneers as they led 3-1 before the Clippers scored the final three goals of the afternoon with the game-winner coming with less than a minute left in the game.
The Clippers scored first in the opening quarter but Alyssa Calvani, who scored all three Pioneer goals, tied it up late in the first quarter.
Calvani scored her second tally in the second quarter and she got her third one in the third quarter.
Anna Kaminski and Grace Klonsky both had one assist while the other goal was unassisted.
The Clippers cut the lead to one late in the third quarter and tied it at four with just under five minutes left in the game.
The game-winner came with 37 seconds left.
The news was better the day before as Lynnfield won its final home game of the season 5-1 over Pentucket.
Due to too many schools being in the “Red” area due to the COVID-19 crisis, the CAL will not have a league tournament like they planned to do at the start of the season.
