Lynnfield defeats Marblehead 3-0 (Oct. 21)

NEWBURYPORT — Lynnfield High field hockey coach Samantha Pindara knew her team faced a tough task on Oct. 13 as they had to travel to Newburyport.
The Clippers are in first place in the Cape Ann League Kinney Division having only lost one game and they beat the Pioneers, 2-0, in the first meeting back on Sept. 8.
Newburyport was able to complete the season sweep as they shut out the Pioneers, 3-0, to go to 13-1 overall.
The Pioneers, meanwhile, fell to 7-5-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the Cape Ann League.
This game was scoreless in the first half as Newburyport erupted for three second-half goals.
Olivia Wilson, Morgan Valeri and Emma Cowles had the three Clipper goals.
Newburyport first goal was off of a corner at the end of regulation time of the third quarter by Valeri. Wilson made it 2-0 with 5:49 remaining in the game.
Cowles goal came off a corner with 31 seconds left.
Overall, the Clippers had 11 corners as most of the play was in Pioneer territory.
Lynnfield goalie, Lauren MacDonald had four saves in net as he record dipped to 7-5-1.
“Overall, they controlled the game,” said Pioneers head coach Samantha Pindara. “We did play really strong defense.”
Players who stood out, according to Pindara were Maddie Sieve, Lily Alves, and Melissa Caprio.
The next game for the Pioneers will take place on Oct. 19 as they host Amesbury at 6:30 p.m. That is the team’s Senior Night as the 12th-graders will be honored before the game.
They then play a non-league game on Oct. 21 as they visit Marblehead. That game will start at 10 a.m.
On Oct. 23, the Pioneers return to CAL action as they visit North Reading at 5:45 p.m.
