Girls’ cross-country cruises past Essex Tech

LYNNFIELD — The cross-country teams gave strong performances during a dual meet against Essex Tech on Oct. 11.

“It was a good meet for both teams,” said Pioneers head coach William Wallace.

The girls’ team (2-2) defeated Essex Tech 21-37. The lowest score in cross-country wins a meet.

Junior Gabby Bottaro broke the tape first against the Hawks (20:26). Senior captain Viola Wertz finished second against Essex Tech (20:38). Junior Caitlin Buoniconti placed fifth during the meet (21:29). Junior Kaila George was sixth overall (21:34). Senior captain Katie Cash finished seventh during the meet (21:48).

Freshman Maeve Wertz secured a ninth place finish against Essex Tech (23:00). Sophomore Shea Moore placed 11th during the meet (23:06). Senior captain Olivia Goguen was 13th overall (23:51). Junior Lily White finished 14th during the meet (24:00).

Boys’ results

The boys’ team (1-3) fell 27-28 to Essex Tech.

Sophomore Dylan Nguyen finished second against the Hawks (17:05). Senior captain Ryan Nguyen placed fourth during the meet (17:25). Captain Shea McCarthy was fifth overall (17:31). Senior Srivanth Tudi secured an eighth place finish against Essex Tech (17:46). Senior Jack Marenghi finished ninth during the meet (17:47).

Senior Owen White placed 11th during the meet (17:49). Senior David Mower finished 12th overall (17:56). Sophomore Nick DeGennaro secured a 15th place finish during the meet (18:48). Freshman Liam Gardner was 16th overall against Essex Tech (18:56). Sophomore Mike Marenghi placed 21st during the meet (20:35).

Invitational meet

The cross-country teams competed in the Catholic Memorial Invitational at Franklin Park in Boston on Oct. 14.

Maeve Wertz finished 24th in the Freshmen Girls’ 3K Race with a time of 14:30.

“Maeve received a medal,” said Wallace.

Gardner finished 43rd overall in the Freshmen Boys’ 3K Race (12:22). Ritvik Mahajan finished 113th in the race (14:00).

White finished 30th in the JV Girls 5K Race with a time of 26:32.

“Lily’s time was just out of medal contention,” said Wallace.

Seven members of the girls’ team competed in the 5K Race. Bottaro was 68th overall (22:33.50). Viola Wertz finished 71st in the race (22:37.40). George placed 102nd overall (23:49.60). Moore finished 112th during the race (24:31.30).

Cash placed 125th during the Varsity 5K Race (25:00.30). Buoniconti was 132nd overall (25:27.30). Goguen finished 137th during the meet (26:11).

Ten members of the boys’ team competed in the Varsity 5K Race. Dylan Nguyen finished 93rd overall (18:39.60). Ryan Nguyen placed 97th during the meet (18:53). McCarthy was 103rd overall (19:28.30).

Tudi was 105th overall (19:39.50). Mower finished 112th during the meet (19:59.20). DeGennaro placed 114th overall (20:02.80). Jack Marenghi was 116th overall (20:06.30). White finished 120th overall (20:33.90). Sophomore Mike Marenghi placed 135th during the meet (22:04.30).

Seven members of the boys’ team competed in the JV 5K Race. Senior Ashkrit Mahajan finished 91st overall (21:43). Senior Drew McKinnon was 94th during the meet (21:48). Junior Matthew Squadrito placed 115th during the meet (22:28).

Sophomore Jacob Book was 134th overall (23:12). Senior captain Jake Martinho placed 139th during the meet (23:20). Junior Shlok Kudrimoti finished 152nd overall (24:11). Senior Ryan Zannella placed 157th overall (24:17).

Upcoming meet

The cross-country teams host Pentucket on Wednesday, Oct. 18, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
