LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High girls’ lacrosse team recorded its first win of the season on Monday afternoon as they blanked guest Triton, 18-0, on a raw, wet day.

With the victory, the Pioneers improved to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the Cape Ann League.

“It was nice to finally get a win,” said Pioneers head coach Christina Serra. “We have come so close in our other games.”

Lynnfield scored 10 times in the opening quarter against the rebuilding Vikings allowing Serra to use her bench.

Taylor Vailiton had five goals and three assists to lead the way while her younger sister, Hayden, had four goals and two assists as the sophomore recorded the 100th goal of her career during the game.

Ava Damiani had a team-high four assists to go with two goals.

Single Pioneer goals were scored by Jordan Calichman, Hannah Ozanian, Clara Caulfield, Rori Caprio, Ereeny Georges, Maura Flaws and Maeve Wertz.

Freshman goalie, Gabby Cassano, picked up her first varsity win in goal as she played the first half and didn’t have to make a save. Olivia Sylvester mopped up in net in the second half and made two stops to preserve the shutout.

Last Friday evening, the Pioneers were edged by host Watertown, 15-14, in a non-league game.

“This game could have went either way,” said Serra. “It was back-and-fourth but they scored the game-winning goal in the final minute.”

Lynnfield trailed, 10-9, at the half as it stayed close in the second half.

Damiani and Hayden Valiton led the team with five goals and two assists each. For Damiani, she recorded her 100th-career point that night.

Taylor Valiton had three goals and one assist while Flaws had the other tally.

Calichman added one assist.

Cassano made 10 stops in net.

On April 1, the Pioneers lost another non-league game as they fell at Swampscott 14-11.

The Big Blue led this one, 6-5, at the half.

“We played hard but their goalie was outstanding,” said Serra, as Lilah Caplan made 18 saves for Swampscott.

The Valiton sisters combined for 10 goals as Taylor had six while Hayden added four. Taylor had two assists while Hayden added one.

Damiani had the other goal and she added a pair of assists. Calichman had two assists while Lily White, and Alex Schmidt each had one helper.

Cassano made nine stops in this game.

Lynnfield’s next game is on April 9 as they host Masconomet at 3:30 p.m. in a non-league contest. They then return to CAL action the next day as they host Ipswich at 4 p.m.

The Pioneers visit Manchester-Essex on April 15 with that game starting at 4 p.m. as well.
