BYFIELD — Last Saturday afternoon, the Lynnfield High girls’ soccer team shut out host Triton, 7-0, up in Byfield. With that win, the Pioneers improved to 8-2 overall and in the Cape Ann League.

The team also swept the season series against the Vikings as they won the first matchup, 8-1, back on Sept. 4.

Kaylee Barrett led the attack with three goals and one assist as she recorded her first hat trick of the year.

“She is a very dynamic player,” said Lynnfield head coach Mark Vermont, about the junior. “She has a great scoring touch around the net.”

Ava Damiani also had a big day with two goals and two assists.

Hannah Ozanian had one goal and one assist while Ella Pascucci had the other goal.

Senior co-captain Giada Antidormi was also credited with three assists.

LHS scored four times in the opening half.

Victoria Minor started in goal and made one stop playing the first 55 minutes to improve to 7-2. Sabrina Hayman cleaned up in net and did not face any shots.

On Sept. 30, the Pioneers edged Newburyport, 2-1, on the road. With that victory, the Pioneers were able to get a split of the season series against the Clippers who won the first meeting, 3-0, back on Sept. 2 in the season-opener.

“That was a really big win,” stated Vermont. “Along with the win against North Reading, this is the biggest win of the season so far.”
Damiani scored off a corner kick by Antidormi just 39 seconds into the game.

In the ninth minute, the Clippers tied it as Sevilla Coffin tied it off a corner kick.

The game stayed knotted at one until the 67th-minute when Bella Sykes scored the game-winner assisted by Pascucci.

“That was a nice shot just over the goalkeeper’s head,” said Vermont.

Newburyport had a couple of chances late to tie it but the Pioneers were able to hold on.

Minor made seven saves in net.

“She played a great game and had a huge save on a breakaway,” said Vermont.

On Oct. 9, Lynnfield goes to Essex Tech at 4 p.m. up in Danvers. The Pioneers beat the Hawks, 3-0, in the first meeting back on Sept. 9th.

They then have a huge match-up against rival North Reading on Oct. 14 at home. That game will be at 6 p.m.

In the first meeting, the Pioneers rolled over the Hornets, 5-1, on Sept. 18 in North Reading.

The Pioneers are ranked 7th in the MIAA Division 3 power rankings.
