LYNNFIELD — The girls’ soccer team shutout both of its opponents last week.
Lynnfield (5-2-1) crushed Pentucket 8-0 on Sept. 24.
Senior captain/forward Bella Carroll gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead after scoring six minutes into the first half, assisted by senior captain/midfielder Clara Caulfield.
Junior midfielder Bella Sykes found the back of the net a minute after Carroll scored. Caulfield had the assist.
Sophomore midfielder Giada Antidormi drilled a shot 12 minutes in the opening frame.
Junior midfielder Hannah Ozanian scored the Pioneers’ fourth goal with 17 minutes remaining in the first half, assisted by senior defender Lily Rocco.
Lynnfield took a 4-0 lead at the break.
Sophomore forward Ava Damiani burred a shot one minute in the second half after receiving a pass from Caulfield and Sykes.
Senior captain/midfielder Emma Rose scored off of a corner kick four minutes in the second half.
Carroll found the back of the net six minutes into the second frame. Damiani had the assist.
Junior midfielder Alex Schmidt scored her first varsity goal with 12 minutes remaining in the game.
Sophomore goalie Victoria Minor tallied five saves in net against the Panthers.
Pioneers head coach Mark Vermont said Carroll and Caulfield both played very well against Pentucket.
“Bella came up big with a couple of goals,” said Vermont. “Clara did a really nice with the hat trick of assists.”
Vermont praised the Pioneers’ play against Pentucket.
“Our midfield really controlled the game,” said Vermont. “We played well defensively and took away Pentucket’s opportunities.”
Declaws Ipswich
The Pioneers kept rolling and defeated Ipswich 4-0 on Sept. 26.
Caulfield found the back of the net 14 minutes into the first half after receiving a pass from Carroll.
Rose drilled a shot with 23 minutes remaining in the game. Sykes and Carroll had the assists.
The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Sykes gave Lynnfield a 3-0 lead 24 minutes into the second half.
Rose scored her second goal off of a penalty kick a minute after Sykes scored.
“Emma played a great game,” said Vermont. “She showed great composure and was able to finish the PK off.”
Minor recorded five saves in the cage against the Tigers.
Vermont said Caulfield “played a great game” against Ipswich.
“Clara did a nice job in the midfield,” said Vermont.
Vermont also said the Pioneers played well defensively against the Tigers.
“I was really happy with how our defense played,” said Vermont. “Senior captain Ariana Guarracino and sophomore Jordan Calichman especially did a nice job shutting Ipswich down.”
Vermont said Sykes and sophomore midfielder Giada Antidormi also played well against Ipswich.
Upcoming games
The Pioneers traveled to Triton on Tuesday, Oct. 1, taking place after deadline. Lynnfield hosts rival Newburyport on Thursday, Oct. 3, beginning at 6 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
