LYNNFIELD — It was do-or-die for the Lynnfield High golf team on Oct. 8 as they hosted North Reading in the regular-season finale at Sagamore Spring.

If the Pioneers won the match, they would qualify for the Division 3 North Sectionals. However, if the Pioneers lost, their season would be over.

Despite the wet conditions from rain earlier in the day, the Pioneers were able to pull off an impressive 193-157, win in order to qualify as they finished at 7-6.

“It was our most complete team victory of the season,” stated Lynnfield head coach Mike Morseco, as the 193 points is the most the team has scored all year. “They should be given a lot of credit for what they did considering the circumstances.”

Three Pioneers broke the 30 point (Stableford scoring) barrier, Max Sabbagh, Brady Cole and Mike Mattia.

Lynnfield was also able to complete the season sweep over the Hornets as they won the first meeting, 159-155, at Hillview Golf Club back on Sept. 4.

The Pioneers will now compete in the MIAA Division 3 North Sectionals on Oct. 15 at Far Corner in West Boxford. That event will start at 8:30 a.m.

The next day, also at Far Corner, the Cape Ann League Open will take place with that event also starting at 8:30 a.m.
