Pioneer spikers push winning streak to five

 

LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield High volleyball team improved their winning streak to five games with a pair of recent CAL sweeps.

On Oct. 7, the Pioneers beat Ipswich 3-0 on the road, earning set victories with scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-15.

Audrey Manning had 18 kills, 3 aces, 12 assists and 16 digs in an impressive performance.

Alexia Vaquerano added 14 kills, 12 digs and 11 serve receptions.

Christine Choi had 6 kills, Carina DeLeo had 13 assists and Elliana Moretti had 16 receptions, 8 assists and 18 digs.

Lynnfield improved to 13-2 with their 3-0 victory over Hamilton-Wenham on Friday at LHS. The Pioneers had to battle in every set against the Generals but ended up winning with scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-21.

Vaquerano paced the attack with 12 kills while Manning had 10.

The Pioneers served very well in this one, collecting 14 aces led by Moretti’s 4 and 3 each from Olivia Kelter and Sophie Shaievitz.

Lynnfield, ranked No. 6 in the latest Div. 3 power rankings, traveled to Newburyport on Tuesday after press time and visits Hamilton-Wenham on Thursday night at 5 p.m.

On Monday, a huge matchup looms with rival North Reading, 5 p.m. at LHS. The Hornets are ranked No. 7 in D3. North Reading won the first matchup, 3-2 at NRHS.
