LYNNFIELD — It was a happy senior night for the Lynnfield High volleyball team on Monday as the Pioneers defeated guest Georgetown 3-0. With that victory, the Pioneers were able to sweep the season series against the Royals as they beat them, 3-0, back on Sept. 19 in Georgetown.
Lynnfield improved to 9-8 overall and 7-6 in the Cape Ann League with the win.
The Pioneers won the three sets, 25-9, 25-15 and 25-20.
“We continue to get better every day,” said Pioneers head coach Brent Ashley, as his squad won its third-straight match. “We are seeming to find more and more, that we are playing together and connecting the intangibles that only come from playing with each other for a long time.”
Chase Carangelo had a team-high 13 kills and seven digs while junior, Erika Pasquale, had 11 kills, six digs, and three service aces.
Lily DeLeo had a solid match with 15 assists to go with seven aces, four kills and six digs.
Senior setter, Janhavi Joglekar led the team in assists with 16 and tied Carangelo in digs with seven.
Before the match, the four Pioneer 12th-graders, DeLeo, Joglekar, Livia Tare and Grace D’Augusta were honored.
On Oct. 19, the Pioneers traveled to Byfield to take on Triton. They ended up beating the Vikings 3-1 to complete the season sweep over them as well as they beat them, 3-2, back on Sept. 21.
The schools split the first two sets as Lynnfield won the first one, 25-21, while the Vikings won the second one, 25-15.
The Pioneers then closed the matchup winning the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-16.
DeLeo, a senior setter, led the team in service points (17) and assists (14). Carangelo led the team in kills with 20 while Pasquale had a team-high 12 digs.
In a non-league match on Oct. 17, the Pioneers hosted Lynn Classical. They ended up winning that non-league match 3-0.
Lynnfield beat the Rams in the three sets, 25-20, 25-17, and 25-17.
DeLeo led the team again in service points with 16. Carangelo, a junior outside hitter, was tops in kills (18) and digs (14).
Junior Olivia Kelter was right behind Carangelo in digs with 13.
The Pioneers go to Danvers on Oct. 25 as they visit CAL newcomer, Essex Tech at 5:15 p.m.
Lynnfield then hosts Pentucket in the final match of the regular season on Oct. 27. That match will also start at 5:15 p.m.
Lynnfield entered this week ranked 19th in the MIAA Division 3 power rankings. The top 32 teams automatically qualify for the states at the end of the regular season.
“They all appear healthy and excited to make this last push for playoffs,” said Ashley about his team. “Division 3 really is such that anything is possible. We’re optimistic, but at the same time, willing to put in the hard work to give every match our full attention.”
