LYNNFIELD — The Select Board accepted two committee members’ resignations from two different boards “with regret” during a Dec. 2 meeting.
Select Board Chair Dick Dalton said Traffic Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC) member Christina Hayman has resigned from the panel. The Select Board appointed Hayman to the TSAC last July.
“I talked with Christina about a month ago, so it comes as no surprise,” said Dalton. “She has a lot going on with the family right now. She was a terrific addition to the committee in her short time there. She made a real mark on it. I wish her all the best and I thank her for stepping up initially.”
Spring Town Meeting voted to create the TSAC last April, and the committee was formed last July. The TSAC is an advisory committee that will be giving reports about traffic, roads and related infrastructure in town to the Select Board.
The Select Board also accepted Recreation Commission member Matt Monkiewicz’s resignation, which will occur on Dec. 31. He has served on the Recreation Commission for the past 13 years.
“Matt is among the longest serving committee members on any board here in town,” said Dalton. “We certainly thank Matt for all he has done for over a decade.”
Monkiewicz thanked the Select Board, the Recreation Commission and the staff members he has worked with for the support they have provided him over the past 13 years.
“A heartfelt thank you to you all and the Rec Commission and staff that I was fortunate to serve alongside,” Monkiewicz wrote. “I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in some of the great work and accomplishments of the Rec Commission since joining the board in 2011. I hope that I have contributed to the betterment of our town and our community in some small way during my tenure. And I look forward to the fresh new ideas that the next generation of members can bring to make the Rec better than ever. I am always here to lend a helping hand and be a resource if I am needed.”
MarketStreet holiday hours
The Select Board approved MarketStreet Lynnfield’s request for extended holiday hours.
“Most of our hours fit within the regulated development agreement this year,” said MarketStreet General Manager Charlotte Woods. “We found that our traffic patterns don’t need to waver earlier or later than that. We are just requesting to remain open until 1 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. It’s on a Tuesday this year. I know that we are allowed to be open to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, but we need special permission when it’s a Tuesday.”
Woods also said The Paper Store is requesting, “Separate hours than the development agreement allows.”
“From Dec. 15 through Dec. 20, they are looking to open at 8 a.m.,” said Woods. “We are only allowed to open at 9 a.m.”
Woods also said The Paper Store is looking to open at 7 a.m. on Dec. 21, 8 a.m. on Dec. 22 and at 7 a.m. on Dec. 23 and Christmas Eve.
Additionally, Woods also requested that MarketStreet Lynnfield’s restaurants be allowed to stay open until 12 a.m. on Super Bowl Sunday, which will take place on Feb. 9.
“People don’t want to come to the restaurants if they can see the end of the game,” said Woods. “We are only looking for a 12 a.m. close.”
Dalton said the proposed holiday hours for MarketStreet are “not too different” than previous holiday hours requests.
Woods said Dalton was correct.
“The rest of the stores will be open between their regular hours,” said Woods.
Select Board member Phil Crawford expressed his support for MarketStreet’s request for extended holiday hours.
“This is pretty much what we have done every year other than The Paper Store,” said Crawford. “It is very quiet and I go there all the time myself. I have no problem with this.”
