Boys’ track team edged by Amesbury 81-64

LYNNFIELD — On May 7, the Lynnfield High boys’ track and field team lost to Amesbury, 81-64, at home. With the defeat, the Pioneers fell to 1-2 overall.
“We did have some great performances despite losing,” said Pioneers head coach Bill Wallace.
Lynnfield recorded eight individual wins against the Red Hawks, who improved to 3-0.
Eli Mendese led the team with wins in three events. The 12th-grader won the shot-put (44-6), javelin (137-10) and the high jump (6-2).
Nick Kelter won two events. He broke the school record in the triple jump (44-2) and was also first in the long jump (19-8.5).
The three other individual winners were Jesse Dorman (10.9 in the 100-meters), Dan Lemieux (52.8 in the 400-meters), and Dillon Reilly (22.8 in the 200-meters).
Lemieux and Reilly both qualified for the states with those times.
The 4×100 relay team of Reilly, his brother Brendan, Dorman and Anthony Attubato also won with a time of 45.8 seconds.
On May 10, the Pioneers participated in the Henry Sheldon Meet which took place at Triton up in Byfield. Lynnfield ended up scoring a total of 58 points which was good for fifth place overall.
The Pioneers had two first-place finishes led by Kelter who broke the meet record with a 44-4 in the triple jump. Mendese was first in the high jump at 6-2.
Kelter was also voted field event athlete of the meet by the head coaches.
Mendese was third in the javelin with a toss of 129-8 feet. Dorman captured third in the 100-meters at 11:14. Lemieux was also third with a time of 54.54 in the 400-meters.
Dillon Reilly placed fourth in the 200 (23.48) while his brother was in fifth place (23.56).
Marko Tare took fourth in the 400-hurdles at 1:06.82) while Kenneth Waldron-Price came in fifth at 1:07.37.
The 4×200 relay team of the Reilly brothers, Lemieux and Dorman came in second at 1:35.68.
On May Wednesday they host Ipswich at 4 p.m. in their final dual meet of the regular season.
