LYNNFIELD —  It was a successful playoff opener for the Lynnfield High girls’ lacrosse team on May 29 as the Pioneers defeated Oakmont, 15-5, at home in the MIAA Division 4 Round of 32.

The Pioneers led this one wire-to-wire as they were comfortably up, 12-3, at the half.

“We did great,” stated Pioneers head coach Christina Serra. “We played well from start to finish.”

Hayden Valiton had a very memorable day with a career-high 11 goals. The sophomore also caused five Spartan turnovers.

“She has been working very hard and is our top player,” said Serra. “She cuts well in front of the net to get open and did a great job of finishing.”

Her older sister, Taylor Valiton, scored twice and had two assists. Along with the four points, she also led the team in draw wins with 16.

“She did an excellent job with the draws,” said Serra, about the senior.

Ava Damiani had a team-high six assists and she also scored once while Jordan Calichman had one goal and a pair of assists to round out the scoring.

Lynnfield goalie, Olivia Sylvester, made six saves to pick up her first-career playoff win.

With that result, the 14th-seeded Pioneers improved to 9-12. Meanwhile, the 19th-seeded Spartans ended the year at 10-9.

The Pioneers visited 3rd-seeded Norwell (15-3) in the Round of 16 on Tuesday (results not available as of press time).

The winner of that game will play in the state quarterfinals against the winner of No. 6 Hamilton-Wenham vs. No. 11 Swampscott sometime this weekend.
