LYNNFIELD — On June 10, the Lynnfield Middle School cross country team had a race in association with the Lynnfield Recreation Department. The event took place at the high school and consisted of two laps around the athletic field, which is slightly over 1.5 miles.

The Lynnfield High cross county teams led registration, warm-ups and even ran in the race to guide the middle school runners.

Pietro Bossi Bueno was the boys’ winner as the 5th-grader had a time of 7:58. The girls’ champion was 7th-grader Avery Trippe who finished with a time of 8:10.

Overall, nine middle school kids competed in the event: Anastacia Curtis, Joey Correia, Ruby Curtis, Elle Ferguson, Elise Geary, Gianna Mwangi and Taylor White.

Curtis is a 7th-grader while the rest of the runners were 5th-graders.

“I wanted to thank everybody who joined us for the race,” said Lynnfield High girls’ cross-county head coach Liane Cook, who teaches biology and environmental science at LHS. “We got lucky with the weather as the rain held off.”

This is the second time there was a middle school cross country race this school year as one was also held last fall.

“We are trying to promote our cross county teams at the high school level,” explained Cook, who worked on this race with Lynnfield High boys’ cross country head coach Bill Wallace. “We want to give the kids an experience before they enter high school.”

Both coaches want to do the two events again next school year.
