WESTFIELD — The Lynnfield High boys’ track and field team competed in the Division 5 State Championship Meet at Westfield State on Thursday and Saturday.
Of the 36 schools there, the Pioneers tied for 14th with 21 points. Weston was 1st with 100.5 points.
Eli Mendese led the way again, as the senior placed in all three events he participated in. He finished 2nd in the Pentathlon, scoring a total of 2889 points, which is a school record. He also finished 6th in the javelin (142’11”) and 7th in the high jump (6’0”).
“He had a great meet,” stated Pioneers head coach Bill Wallace.
Nick Kelter also broke his own school record in the tripe jump with a distance of 45-3 which beat his record from the week before at the Cape Ann League meet.
Several other LHS athletes competed but did not score. They were Brendan Reilly in the 200 meters (23.63) his brother Dillon, in the 200 ( 23.63) and 100 (11.87), Jesse Dorman in the 100 (11.94), and Dan Lemieux in the long jump (20’3.75”).
The 4×100 team 100 of, Lemieux, the Reilly brothers and Dorman had a time of 45.28 while the 4×400 relay team of the Reilly brothers, Lemieux and Keven Keyes had a finishing time of 3:39.68.
Mendese and Kelter are both set to compete at the Meet of Champions, which will take place Thursday and Saturday of next week at Fitchburg State University.
