LYNNFIELD — Last Friday afternoon, the Lynnfield High boys’ tennis team beat guest Swampscott, 4-1, in a non-league match on a warm, sunny day.

With the victory, the Pioneers improved to 3-0.

Shea McCarthy lost at first singles, 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 (10-point tiebreaker).

“That was a great match,” said Lynnfield head coach Joe Dunn. “They played a 10-point tiebreaker since the match was already decided at that point.”

Shlok Kudrimoti shut out his opponent at second singles, 6-0, 6-0, while sophomore Brady Trippe won, 6-3, 6-4 at third singles.

In doubles action, the first team of Raffi Arkun and Rowan Bayer won, 6-3, 6-4. The second pairing of Andee Shieh and Ritvik Mahajan also won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.

“They gave us a good challenge,” said Dunn, about the Big Blue. “They should have a good year in the Northeastern Conference.”

On April 1, the Pioneers beat visiting Hamilton-Wenham, 3-2 in the Cape Ann League opener. McCarthy, at first singles, won in three sets as he lost the first one 1-6. He then won, 7-6 (7-2 in the tiebreaker) and 6-3.

Kudrimoti lost as he suffered a quad injury in the third set and retired.

Shieh played third singles and he lost, 6-0, 6-4.

In doubles play, Matt Reinold and Arkun won, 7-5, 6-4. Trippe and Bayer won, 6-1, 6-2 at second doubles.

“We have been working doubles combinations early on this season,” explained Dunn. “Both teams played very well together in this match.”

The match at Newburyport scheduled for Monday was rained out and will be made up on May 1 at 3:30 p.m.

On April 9, the Pioneers host Ipswich at 3:30 p.m. The next day, they visit Beverly in a non-league match, also starting at 3:30 p.m.
