Pickleball instruction coming to town this fall

LYNNFIELD — Lynnfield Recreation will be offering Adult Beginner Pickleball lessons for residents age 18 and older this fall.

The lessons will take place at Lynnfield Middle School’s tennis courts on Thursdays from Sept. 11 through Oct. 9 from 5-6 p.m.

Pickleball is the fastest growing and very popular sport for women and men of all ages.  Pickleball is a combination of ping pong, tennis and badminton played with a paddle and whiffle ball.  It is played on a smaller court than tennis (20’ by 44’) with a three-foot high net.

“It is fun, easy to learn and play,” said Recreation Director Jimmy Olsen. “The five-week, one-hour lessons for beginner training sessions will include how to serve, return serve, dink shots, pickleball rules, how to score the games, safety and sportsmanship.  The lessons will be held at the Lynnfield Middle School tennis courts.”

Olsen said Vin Grifoni, a professional pickleball registry certified instructor, will be teaching the lessons.

“Vin has competed and medaled in several USA Pickleball Tournaments and brings a supportive teaching style and a positive learning environment,” said Olsen. “The lessons are perfect for those who are just starting out in the sport and want to learn the basics. Come and join the lessons participants to learn, enjoy and have fun playing the fastest growing game in the United States of America.”
