MELROSE — Marie C. (Hong) Wong, long time resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 3, at the Courtyard Nursing Center in Medford. She was 97.

Born in Lynn on August 11, 1925, Marie was one of six children of the late Chung and Tai Kwai (Ng) Hong. She grew up in Melrose and attended Melrose High School. On September 6, 1953, Marie and Wing Wong were married and eventually settled in Melrose raising a family of four children and sharing nearly 69 wonderful years together.

Family and faith were the cornerstones of Marie’s life. She was a longtime member of Green Street Baptist Church in Melrose. She enjoyed traveling with Wing and her family, spending time with her sisters, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, sewing, relaxing with the daily newspaper and was an avid coupon clipper.

Marie was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and centered her life on her family. She loved her grandchildren and attending their special activities. Her deep love and devotion to her family, love of life and giving heart will be missed by all.

Marie was the beloved wife of the late Wing Gen Wong with whom she shared almost 69 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Arthur B. Wong and his wife Anne of Groton; Beverly M. Randazza and her husband Anthony of Wakefield; the late Alfred R. Wong and the late Andrew W. Wong. Cherished grandmother of Nathan, Matthew and Thomas Wong; and Brianna Randazza.  Loving sister of the late Robert Hong and his late wife Meiling; the late Richard Hong and his wife Linda; Mabel Shin and her late husband Wing; the late Rolland Hong and his late wife Jean; and the late Marion Lee and her husband Hon Chi. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends were invited to gather in honor of Marie’s life during visiting hours at Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose, on Wednesday, May 10 from 9-11 a.m., with her Funeral Service celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
