Marion Bouchie, 93

Enjoyed campfires hummingbirds, fishing and sunsets

MELROSE — Marion Bouchie, 93, of Melrose died peacefully in her sleep on May 1. Raised in Leominster, she went to college in the 50s to get a teaching degree instead of a husband. Marion’s first teaching job was at King Phillip High in Wrentham where she met her husband Robert. They then moved to downstate NY and started a family while she taught in local public schools. Marion was a devoted wife, mother and teacher, had a wide social circle, entertained a lot and was irascible. In the 60s she berated an AmEx rep who’d insisted she could only get a credit card through her husband. She got the card.

A few years later, she gamely agreed to move to New Brunswick, Canada after Bob took a teaching position there. Marion started teaching English at a private girls’ school then quickly rose to the position of Headmistress, out earning her husband. In the early 70s, the family moved to Melrose where she continued her teaching career nearby. In the 80s she and Bob traveled extensively in Russia and Europe. In 2000, they retired and bought a vacation home on Sebago Lake in ME. Marion lived her best life there, enjoying campfires, hummingbirds, deer, fishing, sunsets and home cooked meals. Health issues prompted them to later move to assisted living and Marion went to hospice 10 years ago and left one month later.

Marion is predeceased by her husband Robert and son Christopher. She is survived by sons Larry of Melrose and René of North Conway; and granddaughters Nicole, Shelby and Emma. Funeral services are private.
