Mary Ellen Faulconer, 83

An avid Red Sox fan who enjoyed weekend trips to Maine for lobster 

MELROSE — Mary Ellen (McDermott) Faulconer, a lifelong resident of Melrose passed away peacefully at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Friday, January 17 at age 83.  

She was born on January 5, 1942, daughter of the late Frank McDermott and Beatrice (Hislop) McDermott. A Melrose native, Mary Ellen was raised and educated in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School. While working at HK Porter in Somerville, she met Herbert Faulconer and they were married on February 17, 1962. They settled in Melrose to raise a family of three children and enjoyed nearly 59 years of marriage together. 

Mary Ellen devoted herself to her children while also staying active in the community. She was a longtime, active parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Church. She made many friendships through her love of people while volunteering for the Women’s Guild, yearly Holly Festival and many Church Dinners. She also enjoyed helping others while volunteering at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital Gift Shop or offering a ride to anyone in need. 

During the summer when her children were young, Mary Ellen loved time at the family camp in Alton Bay, NH especially days on the boat with family. She and Herb also enjoyed weekend trips to the Maine coast for lobster and she was a longtime avid Red Sox fan. Mary Ellen was a proud supporter of her grandchildren, always watching their youth sports games and attending many recitals. 

Mary Ellen left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Outgoing, friendly and cheerful, she made friends everywhere she went and raised up those around her. Her warmth and uplifting spirit made an impact through her dedication to family, friends and her faith. Her generous, caring and loving nature will carry on in the hearts and minds of family and will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace.

Mary Ellen was the beloved wife of the late Herbert L. Faulconer, Jr. with whom she shared nearly 59 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Herb Faulconer and his wife Debra of Nashua, NH; Kathy Connolly and her husband Larry of Tewksbury; and Robert Faulconer and his wife Alison of Groton. Cherished grandmother of Ryan, Kyle, Zachary, Matthew and Emily; and loving great-grandmother of Greyson. 

Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to gather in honor of Mary Ellen during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, January 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. before leaving in procession to Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1055 Main St., Wakefield for her funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
