BRIGHTON—The Melrose High boys’ indoor track team are continuing their incredibly strong season with a nice 4-1 league record as they approach their halfway make of the season.

Having only lost earlier this winter to Burlington, Melrose has swept all other ML Freedom teams on their schedule including Watertown, Wilmington, Stoneham and Wakefield. And on Monday, they made it official with an overwhelming 85-15 win over the Wilmington Wildcats at the Track at New Balance in Boston.

Melrose simply dominated in each event, and a few Melrose athletes swept the entire ML-12 in their events.

Having a hot day was their 4×400 relay team of Adam Caldwell, Sam O’Donnell, Matt Sarnoski and Jevon Ssebugwawo, who flew past the entire fleet with a great time of 3:29.30, besting nearest rivals from Burlington. Moreover, Sam Madden beat the whole field with a first place high jump finish at 6-04.

Melrose’s Josh Grant placed second in the entire ML-12 with a speedy time of 6.68 in the 55 dash. Teammates Tyler Lecomte and Sebastian Fiote helped Melrose sweep the event over Wilmington. Melrose’s Brendan Radzik and Jovan Ssebugwawo were a 1-2 finish in the 300. Sam O’Donnell and Matt Sarnoski also swept the top two spots in the 600. John Strong and Jonah Tully also took the top 2 spots in the 1000m. Melrose had no problem in distance running behind the legs of Adam Caldwell, Ben Dugan and Henry McCormack who swept the 1-mile. Giancarlo Martinis prevailed in the 55 hurdles and Melrose’s 4×200 relay team also placed first thanks to the work of Tyler Lecomte, Brendan Radzik, Max Lanciani and Josh Grant.

Long jump was also very well represented thanks to a 1-2 place finish by Tom McElligot and Brendan Radzik in the event.

This weekend both the boys and girls team will compete in the Div. 3 State Relays at the Reggie Lewis Center, where they look to bring home some medal.
