Track boys earn 4th at State Relay Finals
Guzman earns state relay title in javelin

PEMBROKE—It was a fantastic day for the Melrose High boy’s outdoor track team, who took an impressive 4th place out of 17 teams at the MSTCA Div. 4 State Relay Finals at Pembroke High. They also crowned at State Relay Champion in Emmanuel Guzman, who swept the field in the javelin with a throw of 51.84 meters.
His coach Tim Morris was proud of the senior’s efforts.
“We’re really proud of our kids and how hard they all competed today.” Guzman was joined in his relay team with Brendan Radzik, who earned bronze in the event, and teammate Jack McAree. Radzik had a particularly strong day by also medaling in the long jump with 4th place finish. “Our javelin team of Guzman, Radzik and McAree had a tremendous day,” says the coach.

The team’s high jump group also had a strong day. Senior Sam Madden medaled in 4th place and was joined on the podium by teammate Charlie Finocchiaro (7th), and aided by Nick Vassallo (9th) Another medal winner was Owen Mujalli, who placed 8th in the triple jump. He was joined in the event by Giancarlo Martinis Torres and Amato Finocchiaro. Melrose was represented in the shot put and discus by Keegan Moloney, Christian Correia and Jack McAree.
But it was Melrose’s relay teams who helped push Melrose close to the top. Earning third was the 1600m sprint medley team of Radzik, Tyler LeComte, Matt Sarnoski and Adam Caldwell with a time of 3:39.87.
Also medaling was their 4000m distance medley team of Henry McCormack, Adam Caldwell, John Strong and Caleb Barnes (6th place) and the 1600 sprint medley team of Brayden Danderhoof, Drew Finger, James Sarnoski and Elliot Barber.
Melrose’s 4×400 relay team earned fourth behind the work of Jonah Tulley Matt Sarnoski, Tyler Lecomte and Adam Caldwell. Their 4×110 shuttle hurdle also medaled thanks to Charlie Finocchiaro, Cam Orlandella, Max Lanciani and Giancarlo Martinis Torres who were 5th overall.
Melrose still has a busy season ahead. They will take part in the upcoming 2025 Middlesex League Meet before preparing for the MIAA Div. 4 State Finals which takes place May 30-June 1.
Notes coach Morris, “Wakefield and Burlington are very good. We just want our guys to show up and compete and keep getting PRs, and we are going to be right there.”
