LEXINGTON—The Melrose High boy’s outdoor track team is preparing for the 2025 Middlesex League meet and enters it with a record of 3-2 after completing their Middlesex League dual meet season with back-to-back wins over Watertown and Wilmington.

They’ve also been taking on statewide competition with solid results.

They were simply dominant over Watertown on May 8 when they traveled to Lexington to face the Raiders and took a convincing victory, which was followed up by a win over Wilmington on this past Tuesday, 94-42.

Against the Watertown Raiders, several first-place finishes and sweeps were recorded. They included a 1-2 sweep in the 800 by John Strong and Adam Caldwell, with Ian McGrath 3rd for Melrose, and a sweep over Watertown in the mile on the legs of Caleb Barnes, Henry McCormack and Ben Dugan; a first place finish by Nick Yassallo in the high jump, while teammate Charlie Finocchiaro was second; a first place finish by Jason Tang in the triple jump, with teammate Owen Mujalli right behind him in 2nd, and a first place overall finish by Emmanuel Guzman in the javelin.

Those cracking the top three in other events included Tyler Lecomte, second in the 100 dash, Nick Vassallo, Matt Sarnoski and Brayen Vanderhoof in the 200, a first place finish by Tyler Lecomte in the 400, and third by Drew Finger in the event; a second place finish by William Oldham in the 2 mile, a sweep by Giancarlo Martinis Torres, Charlie Finocchiaro and Cam Orlandella in the 110 hurdles, a second place finish by Matt Sarnoski in the 400, a first and second finish by Matt Callahan and Charlie Finocchiarro in the long jump, a second and third place in shot by Jack McAree and Cole Nault, and a second and third place finish in the discus by Keegan Moloney and Christian Correia.

Melrose (3-2) also had some great runs and times at the 2025 Andover Booster’s Invitational last weekend. Among those landing on the podium were Brendan Radzik, who earned silver in the long jump and was 7th in the 100m, Giancarlo Martinis Torres, 7th in 110 hurdles and 8th in triple jump, Matt Sarnoski, 4th in 400 hurdles, Emmanuel Guzman, 5th in javelin, and Matt Callahan, 7th in the long jump.

With league finals next week Melrose is in a great position to collect plenty of medals. Among those who are leading the league in their events are Caleb Barnes (1 & 2 mile) Giancarlo Martinis Torres in 110 hurdles, and Brendan Radzik in the long jump.
