The City Hall Update

MELROSE — The City of Melrose is sharing the following updates for the upcoming week:

Pumpkin Composting & City Yard schedule

The Melrose DPW is hosting a Pumpkin Composting Event in partnership with Garbage To Garden on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event is at the turnaround next to the City Yard. The City Yard will be closed for yard waste and recycling on Nov. 8. Pumpkins that have paint, glitter, hairspray, bleach, or petroleum jelly on them cannot be accepted. If you are unable to come to the event to dispose of your pumpkin, please place them in the trash. Pumpkins cannot be disposed of with regular yard waste.

The Melrose City Yard is open for recycling and yard waste drop-off every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The Yard will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Schools and City Offices closed Nov. 11

All Melrose Public Schools and City Offices, except police and fire stations, will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans’ Day. Trash and recycling will not be collected on Nov. 11, and there will be a one-day delay in collection for the remainder of the week. On Nov. 11, Veterans’ Day, veterans and their families are honored during the annual ceremony. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the Knoll, Vietnam Reflection Area (across from the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, 360 Lynn Fells Parkway). Please join Melrose veterans to honor and remember all who have served.

Community applicants needed for climate preparedness efforts

In 2025, the City of Melrose was awarded a grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) to complete the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Planning 2.0 process to help Melrose identify climate hazards, assess vulnerabilities, and develop action plans to improve resilience to climate change. The City of Melrose is looking to hire 5 community members interested in participating in this planning process. These positions are compensated through funding from the MVP 2.0 grant and are not eligible for benefits. Visit www.cityofmelrose.org/MVP2025 for more information.

Fall Street Sweeping ongoing

The Melrose Department of Public Works has released the schedule for its Fall Street Sweeping Program, which began Monday, Nov. 3 with the sweeping of the City’s main roads.
