MELROSE — The City of Melrose is sharing the following updates for the upcoming week:
Melrose P.D. hosting free
movie night Oct. 12
The Melrose Police Department’s community engagement group will host a free outdoor screening of Hocus Pocus (1993) on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. on the field behind the Horace Mann School, 40 Damon Ave. This is a free event for all ages with complementary refreshments and concessions!
Schools and city offices
closed Oct. 13
All Melrose Public Schools and City Offices, except police and fire stations, will be closed on Monday, Oct. 13, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Trash and recycling will not be collected on Oct. 13, and there will be a one-day delay in collection for the remainder of the week.
City Yard schedule & Household Hazardous Waste disposal
Oct. 18
The Melrose City Yard is open for recycling and yard waste drop-off every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 18, the DPW will accept Household Hazardous Waste for disposal from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the City Yard will be open for regular recycling and yard waste drop-off from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Free flu vaccination clinics
in October
Melrose’s Health and Human Services Department is offering several opportunities for the community to receive their flu shots. Vaccinations are available to individuals aged 5 and over. High-dose vaccine will be available to individuals 65 years and older while supplies last. Individuals under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Visit the calendar section at www.cityofmelrose.org to make an appointment for a flu clinic: Oct. 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Memorial Hall; or Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Hall. Biennial water flushing
& hydrant testing
The City’s 2025 flushing program began this month and will continue until late October. During flushing in your neighborhood, your water may temporarily discolor or contain sediment. This program is undertaken to improve water quality and to test and operate our water system’s valves and hydrants. Flushing generally occurs between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the scheduled day. Please check www.cityofmelrose.org/flushing or call the Department of Public Works (DPW) at 781-665-0142 to view the daily list of streets to be flushed. Thank you for your patience during the biennial flushing program.
Fall Street Sweeping begins Nov. 3
The Melrose Department of Public Works has released the schedule for its Fall Street Sweeping Program, which begins Monday, November 3 with the sweeping of the City’s main roads. Review the sweeping schedule at www.cityofmelrose.org/sweeping and make sure your car is not parked on the street on your neighborhood’s scheduled days.
