MELROSE—The Melrose High girls cross country team remains unbeaten in the ML Freedom League following back to back wins over Stoneham and Wilmington. The team beat Stoneham at home on Sept. 30, 15-45 and this week overwhelmed Wilmington, 17-46. Melrose remains 3-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Freedom League, increasing a chance of another league title.

The Stoneham Spartans were largely outmatched on Sept. 30 when they visited Pine Banks Park to take on Melrose. The home team swept the field, all the way to the 16th spot against a challenged Spartan team.

Placing first over all competition was Melrose junior Reilly Powell, who placed first with a time of 20:22. Right behind her, locking in the top 5 spots were Naomi Breay, Violeta Rechea, Dahlia Wilson and Adelina Barnes.

Those who followed include: Ainsley Ludlum, Mirabel Blanchard, Audrey Davies, Audrew Kahandaliya, Alexandra Kiatos, Zoe Audet, Paisley Barsotti, Dakota Digiorgio and Abigail Schad.

Rounding out scoring over Stoneham was Eleanor Marston, Ava Wagoner, Sophie Strileckis, Jane Teittinen, Abby Nersinger, Mae Donohue, Isla Paulson, Helen Morash and Laurel Wallace.

Against Wilmington on Tuesday, Melrose was equally as dominant and swept all but the 4th spot in the top 10 finishers. They swept the first three spots behind winner Reilly Powell, second finisher Dahlia Wilson and Violeta Rechea. The top 10 Melrose runners who placed included (in order) Tegan Altman, Mirabel Blanchard, Audrey Davies, Ainsley Ludlum, Audrey Kahandaliyanage and Adelina Barnes.

Melrose is halfway through their ML Freedom dual meet season and will now look to beat both Burlington and Wakefield, who are always a challenge, for a chance to reclaim their league title.

But first will take part in the always-exciting MSTCA Bob Glennon Twilight Meet at the Barnstable Fairgrounds this weekend.
