MELROSE — Melrose Education Foundation’s annual Parent University, a morning of workshops for parents, caregivers, and community members, will be held in the Melrose High School Learning Commons, 360 Lynn Fells Parkway, on Saturday, November 22, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The event is free; however, registration is required at: melroseef.org.

Workshops cover a range of topics related to education and parenting relevant to children ages preschool through high school. Topics include: college admissions and financing; understanding and supporting anxiety; financial literacy for kids; building independence in young children, and many more.

This year’s event features a focus on parenting in the digital era, with optional presentations by two nationally known experts: Niels Rosenquist, MD, PhD, a trained psychiatrist and economist based at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School whose work focuses on the impact of digital influences on mental health and social connectivity; and internet safety expert Katie Greer, whose work has led to features in USA Today, Time Magazine, Good Housekeeping and on CNN, Inside Edition and more. There will also be a session by Interim Superintendent Berman and Interim Deputy Superintendent Ken Kelley discussing the Melrose Public Schools Budget, offering a chance to hear about the next steps for the schools directly on the heels of the override vote.

“Research shows that parent involvement leads to higher rates of academic success for children,” said Mary Caddle, President of the Melrose Education Foundation. “Melrose Parent University is designed to increase caregivers’ ability to support students and to understand current trends in education. The in-person event offers an opportunity for connection and conversation with friends and neighbors from all around our city. We all need support, and we’re at our best when we all learn together.”
