MELROSE — Families are invited to an event celebrating the launch of author Kymm Gossett Welle’s debut chapter book for kids Gertrude and the Tangled Treasure (BiblioKid Publishing). The book launch will take place at Follow Your Art Community Studios on Sunday, August 24 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
When seven-and-a-half-year-old Gertrude discovers a giant pile of seaweed on the beach, she does what any good explorer does-she investigates! What will she find? Is she brave enough? Does she have what she needs?
Perfect for ages 6 to 9, Gertrude and the Tangled Treasure is a heartwarming early chapter book filled with adventure, friendship and healing. With charming illustrations in every chapter, this story will delight independent readers and anyone who loves a tale of courage and unexpected treasures.
Families will have a chance to purchase the book, courtesy of Molly’s Bookstore and hear the author read its opening pages. They will also be able to participate in a brief Q&A with Welle, facilitated by Melrose YA author Kip Wilson. Younger kids will enjoy coloring activities, and snacks will be available for all!
Welle was a technical writer before switching to her true love of writing children’s books.
She wrote this chapter book Gertrude and the Tangled Treasure based on a character her daughter drew when she was four years old. When Welle is not writing, she’s reading, quilting or crocheting and trying not to eat all the gummy bears in the house. Welle is a writer-in-residence member of Follow Your Art Community Studios and is currently writing Gertrude’s next adventure.
The event is free; donations to support FYACS are always appreciated.
