Melrose falls to Woburn 128-126 (Jan. 29)

WAKEFIELD—The Melrose High School gymnastics team are a solid 3-2 on the season following a convincing win over Wakefield on Friday, Jan. 24., 132.95-123.
Melrose swept all events, with their best showing in floor and vault. They started the night off in the vault and saw a best score in the event logged by junior captain Noah Williamson with an 8.65. Among those who also helped Melrose take the event were senior captain Abby Dennison, junior captain Isabella Ferranti, senior captain Maya Weissman, Ashley Muller and Caroline Lee.
Melrose also took the bars, with an event-best score tallied by Melrose’s Aislin Savage, who scored an 8.45. She was aided by teammates Hillary Bush, Sumin Kang, Isabella Ferranti, Ashley Muller and Charlotte Blanchard.
The beam event was equally successful for Melrose thanks to a very strong event-high score from Ashley Muller (8.75) and a particularly strong performance from Sarah Moise (8.55). Among those who also helped Melrose take the event were Isabella Ferranti, Leila Contin, Maya Weissman and Ella Ugino.
They finished the night with a very strong floor performance with Hillary Bush earning an event high score of 8.75. Among those who also helped Melrose finish with a win were Isabella Ferranti (8.7), Sumin Kang, Ashley Muller, Aislin Savage and Noah Williamson.
Melrose’s Ashley Muller and Isabella Ferranti competed all around.
At press time Melrose was scheduled to host Woburn on Wednesday and will also host Winchester this Friday evening at the Saugus YMCA at 7:00 p.m.
