MELROSE — Seven Melrose High School spring sports teams will be competing in state tournament action this year.
The girls’ tennis team kicked things off on Tuesday with a thrilling 3-2 win over Malden Catholic at the Lyons Courts in a preliminary round matchup. Melrose, ranked No. 31 in the Div. 2 bracket, dropped matches at first and second singles but won at third singles and both doubles matches over the No. 34 Lancers. Melrose (8-10) now on a four-match winning streak, will travel to No. 2 Wayland (10-5) for a first round matchup date and time to be announced as of press time. After press time, Melrose fell 5-0 on the road to No. 2 Wayland (11-5) in a first round matchup. For a link to view the bracket, tap here.

The No. 27 ranked boys’ tennis team (8-12) traveled to No. 6 Scituate (15-3) on Thursday after press time for a first round match. The winner will meet the winner of No. 11 Somerset Berkley vs. No. 22 North Attleborough in the Round of 16. For a link to view the bracket, tap here.
The Melrose girls’ and boys’ track teams will bring strong resumes into the Div. 4 state championship meet which will be held on Friday and Sunday at Merrimack College.
The baseball team earned the No. 22 seed in the Div. 2 state tournament with a regular season record of 12-8. Melrose will travel to No. 11 Milton (10-10) in the first round, date and time to be announced as of press time although it is likely the game will take place on either Sunday or Monday. The winner will advance to the Sweet 16 where they will play the winner of No. 6 Somerset Berkley vs. No. 27 Longmeadow/No. 38 Wayland. For a link to view the bracket, tap here.
The boys’ lacrosse team earned the No. 25 seed in Div. 2 with a regular season record of 9-8. Melrose will travel to No. 8 Walpole (15-3) for a first round game, date and time to be announced as of press time.
