MELROSE — Melrose Little League’s Opening Day is Saturday, April 9. Festivities begin with the annual parade of players, followed by a short ceremony at Lewis Monk Field on Tremont Street. Organizers said they are thrilled to bring back this community event for their 400-plus players and the wider Melrose community.
Schedule of events
• 8:30 a.m.: Arrivals and parade groups at Memorial Hall City Lot on 590 Main St.
• 9:00 a.m.: Parade to begin to Lewis Monk Field, 40 Tremont St.
• 9:20 a.m.: Arrival at Lewis Monk Field
• 9:30 a.m.: Ceremony, National Anthem, First Pitch
• 9:50 a.m.: Ceremony close
Rain Date: Organizers are watching the weather closely and will be in touch if plans are impacted.
Parking
The parking lot behind Memorial Hall will be closed starting at 8:30 a.m. Please plan accordingly and consider lots adjacent to Memorial Hall and Lewis Monk Field on Tremont Street.
Parade route
We will convene at 8:30 a.m. behind Memorial Hall on Main Street. Players will be grouped by their divisions and teams. Coaches and assistant coaches will lead their teams. We will begin the parade promptly at 9:00 a.m. and begin marching towards Lewis Monk Field on Tremont Street (via Main and West Emerson Streets). The route is a little over 1⁄2 a mile and will take about 15 minutes. Water and light, packaged snacks will be available upon arrival at Memorial Hall lot.
Arrival at Lewis Monk Field
Once we arrive at Lewis Monk Field, coaches and teams only will make their way onto the field for a walk around the bases and will situate themselves on the field for the ceremony.
Attire
MLL branded gear of course! Players should wear their MLL uniforms (hats and jerseys at a minimum!) and any other branded gear. Comfortable shoes recommended for the walks.
Morning games
The ceremony at Lewis Monk Field will end by 10:00 a.m. and we will need to vacate the field immediately following to allow our coaches to prep for our 11:00 a.m. game. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
