MELROSE — Four new members of the Melrose Police Department graduated last week from the Mass. Municipal Police Training Committee’s 6th ROC Lynnfield Academy.

Officers Josephine Andruszkiewicz, Adam Caffey, Omar Abbas and Wilkerson Philogene began work in the city Monday, where they will spend the next 10 to 12 weeks in a field training program before they are on their own and ultimately fill positions on the street.

Police Chief Kevin M. Faller said, “We are excited to get these four new officers on the street to fill open assignments. This hiring process started back in the spring of 2024 and it takes about a full year to fill an open assignment for entry level officers due to the time it takes to conduct thorough background investigations, put them through physical and psychological testing, and then finding open slots for a 24 week academy.  Upon graduating the academy, we then implement a 10-12 week field training program before they are on their own and ultimately fill positions on the street.  All four officers are Melrose residents with diverse backgrounds and experience that I think will be a valuable asset to our department moving forward.”

The chief congratulated all new officers.
