Cari Berman named acting schools’ leader

CARI BERMAN

MELROSE — The Melrose School Committee has named Cari Berman the Acting Superintendent of Melrose Public Schools effective this week. An Acting Superintendent assumes the responsibilities of the superintendent when the office is vacant until either a permanent or interim superintendent is hired.

Berman is a longtime educator and administrator in the Melrose Public Schools, originally joining the district as a teacher in 2001 and rising to the roles of Assistant Principal and Assistant Superintendent.

During her years of service in Melrose, beginning in 2001 as a special education teacher at Melrose High School, Berman has served the community as a special education coordinator and administrator, an educational team facilitator, and the assistant principal of Melrose High School. Since 2021, she has been the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Personnel Services for the Melrose Public Schools, leading and directing the district’s provision of special education services.

Berman holds a master’s degree in Special Education and a certificate of advanced graduate studies in School Administration from American International College and a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Fairfield University. In addition to her work in Melrose Public Schools, she has taught undergraduate and graduate courses as an adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and Fitchburg State University since 2014.

“After almost 25 years working in Melrose’s schools, I am pleased to take on the new challenge and additional responsibilities for our school community,” said Superintendent Berman. “I also feel blessed to have been immersed in this community for so much of my career.”

JOHN MACERO

The School Committee also named John Macero, former superintendent of Melrose Public Schools, as a Senior Advisor to the district. Macero, a veteran school leader, will support the school district and help to develop a full transition plan. Macero boasts 13 years of experience as a superintendent, nine years as a school administrator, and 15 years as a classroom teacher, working in five communities over the course of his career. He also brings related experience from his past positions as president of the Saugus Teacher’s Association and as a School Committee member in both Winthrop and Saugus.

“I’m excited to return from retirement to work once again in Melrose, a community which warmly welcomed me during my previous time here,” said Macero. “I’m looking forward to supporting the community’s great public schools and helping to chart a course for their future.”

Berman becomes Acting Superintendent amid the departure of Superintendent Adam Deleidi, who resigned from his position effective Friday, June 13, 2025.
