WILMINGTON—The Melrose High boy’s swim team are a strong 4-2 on the season with a key road win over league rival Burlington on January 16 that sees them shaping up to one of their most competitive seasons in several years.

Melrose beat the Red Devils, 87-75, as a meet held at Shawsheen Tech.

They started strong with a first place finish in the 200yard medley relay behind the work of Gabe Hunnicutt, Jos Baranyi, Dan Mirick and Owen Molway, who put Melrose up 10-4 early.

Will Lowe took the 200 freestyle and right behind him was Owen Erelli for a nice 1-2 sweep, and Melrose would also sweep the 200 IM behind the work of Dan Mirick (first) and Gabe Hunnicutt (2nd).

Jos Baranyi came in first in the 50 free which put Melrose up 43-19. And that lead was extended thanks to Gabe Hunnicutt who placed first in the 100 fly. Melrose had a comfortable lead of 56-22 and that lead grew with the first place finish of Jos Baranyi in the 100 free, while teammate Tristan Onstott placed first in the 500 free.

Melrose also ended the meet with another solid relay performance, the 200 free relay team of Dan Mirick, Gabe Hunnicutt, Will Lowe and Jos Baranyi. And right behind them in second place was the team of Dan Muller, Zach Hunnicutt, Owen Molway and Will Baranyi.

Melrose hopes to make it a winning streak when they travel to Belmont to take on the Marauders on Jan 28.
