MELROSE — The City of Melrose is sharing the following updates for the upcoming week:

City Yard schedule

The Melrose City Yard is open for recycling and yard waste drop-off every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The Yard will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 6.

Victorian Fair on Sunday Sept. 7

The 44th Annual Melrose Victorian Fair, hosted by the Melrose Chamber of Commerce with generous support from the City, will be held on Sunday, September 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Melrose. To create space for pedestrians, performers, exhibitors and vendors, several streets will be closed to vehicles beginning at 4 a.m. Sunday, including the following: Main Street from Essex/Upham Street to Grove Street, West Foster Street from Main Street to Regina Gifts, and East Foster Street from Main Street to the Y parking lot. Water flushing & hydrant testing begins Monday, Sept. 8

The City’s 2025 flushing program will begin on September 8 and will run through late October. This program is undertaken to improve water quality and to test and operate our water system’s valves and hydrants. Flushing hours are generally between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Please check www.cityofmelrose.org or call the Department of Public Works (DPW) at 781-665-0142 to determine the daily list of streets to be flushed. The website will be updated daily on flushing days to reflect the completed streets and the following day’s anticipated schedule. Some streets may require re-listing for completion, so visit the website to check if your street is completed. Please call the DPW at 781-665-0142 if you have a special medical situation we should be aware of. We thank you for your patience during our biennial flushing program.

New residents’ open house Wednesday, Sept. 10

Newcomers to Melrose are invited to attend an informal open house with Mayor Grigoraitis and City officials on Wednesday, September 10 at 7 p.m. If you’ve moved into Melrose in the past year or two and you would like to learn more about local government and city services, RSVP by emailing MayorsOffice@cityofmelrose.org.

Final day to pull nomination papers for City Council, School Committee is Friday, Sept. 12

The deadline for prospective candidates to obtain nomination papers for the November 4, 2025 City Election is Friday, September 12 at 12:30 p.m. Nomination papers should be obtained in-person at the Elections office on the first floor of Melrose City Hall. The deadline for submitting nominating papers for the certification of signatures is Tuesday, September 16 at 5 p.m. In November, Melrose voters will elect 11 City Councilors to two-year terms and three School Committee members to four-year terms.
