MELROSE— The City of Melrose is sharing the following updates for the upcoming week:

City’s 175th birthday party on May 3 at Memorial Hall

with Special Guests Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll and District Attorney Marian Ryan

On May 1, 1850, Melrose (formerly North Malden) officially incorporated as an independent town. On Saturday, May 3 at 10 a.m., join the community at Memorial Hall, 590 Main Street, for a birthday party of historic proportions, featuring a really big cake, volunteer recognitions and more! More birthday events and activities sponsored by local businesses and the Melrose Creative Alliance will continue throughout the day on Saturday.

City Council budget hearings begin Monday, May 5

The City of Melrose’s budget process continues for Fiscal Year 26 (FY 26) with a joint meeting of the City Council and School Committee on Monday, May 5, at 7:15 p.m. in the City Council Chamber located on the first floor of City Hall. Mayor Grigoraitis will deliver a budget address about her administration’s overall budget priorities and the proposed FY 26 budget. This meeting also marks the first of many City Council budget hearings scheduled as part of the collaborative budget process between the City Council, School Committee, and City staff. Curbside yard waste pickup next week

The Department of Public Works will collect yard waste on regular trash and recycling pick-up days during the week of May 5, 2025. Yard waste includes: Leaves, grass clippings and brush up to one inch in diameter (bundled and tied). No dirt allowed. Yard waste must be placed curbside in a maximum of 10 paper leaf bags or barrels. All bags and barrels must be less than 45 gallons and 45 pounds. Barrels must be labeled with “Yard Waste” stickers, which are available at no cost at the Public Works Operations Facility at 72 Tremont Street. Yard waste barrels without stickers will not be picked up with other yard waste and cannot be picked up as trash.
