MELROSE — Donald F. Cogan, 83, died at Tufts Medical Center in Boston on December 9, 2019.
Donald was born in Boston on September 1, 1936 to the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Murphy) Cogan, was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1957 and served his country with pride during the Vietnam War and was discharged in 1962.
Donald lived in Norwell for several years and then moved back to Melrose and has been a resident for over 25 years. He worked as a salesman in the meat packing industry in South Boston for many years. Mr. Cogan was an avid golfer and Boston sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed walking his dog Angel and was an animal lover in general.
Donald was the husband of Donna S. (Dary) Cogan of Melrose and the late Phyllis (Welch) Cogan. Father of Laura Boyden and her husband Jim of Hampton, N.H., Denise Belliveau and her husband Eric of Tewksbury and Donny Bellandi and his wife Katie of Melrose. Grandfather of Danielle Nichols and spouse Mathew, Erica Belliveau and partner Iliabel Rivera, Tyler and Ashley Bellandi. Great-grandfather of Hailey, Jackson, Jayce Nichols. Brother of David Cogan and Deryll of Norwell, Kenneth Cogan and Allyce of Fla. and Arthur Cogan and the late Jean of S.C.
Visitation was at Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Thursday, December 19, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, 9 Herbert St. Melrose. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Interment with Military Honors at North Weymouth Cemetery in Weymouth.
