A fun-loving and compassionate man who had a passion for sports

MELROSE — Jon J. Albanese, a Melrose resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston at age 41.

Jon was born in Melrose on November 26, 1980. He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1999, and from Curry College with a degree in Communications in 2003.

While in college, Jon interned at WRKO, and after graduating, received a position as a Technical Producer. After four years at WRKO, he joined WEEI as an Executive Sports Producer. Jon worked on radio broadcasts for the Boston Red Sox and Celtics Radio Networks, enjoying every minute with his coworkers, and fulfilling his love of Boston sports. After experiencing numerous broadcasting and personal highlights at WEEI, Jon accepted a position as Manager and Executive Producer of the PGA Tour Radio station on Sirius XM Radio. Once again, Jon was blessed to experience up close his passion for golf while working with PGA Tour athletes and visiting golf courses across the country. Most recently, Jon’s career brought him closer to family with his current role at WBUR as a Recording Technician in Boston.

From high school, to college, to his broadcasting career, Jon brought people together. He was humble, lighthearted, always willing to laugh, and approachable. Throughout his life, Jon’s fun-loving nature led him to receiving nicknames from those he loved. To various people, Jon was Alby, Jab, Metalhead Jon, Bernie, and to his family, Jonny Baby or Uncle Jon Jon. He fostered numerous relationships that brought him much joy through all phases of life, and he was always incredibly supportive and loyal.

In his free time, Jon loved golfing with family and friends, and attending heavy metal concerts. At home, he enjoyed cooking, grilling, listening to Pink Floyd, and watching his Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox.

Above all, Jon’s first priority was always his family, and he was always ready to help. Jon will be deeply missed, but his compassionate, supportive, and fun-loving spirit will be always remembered and treasured.
