Nancy Burns, 76

STONEHAM — Nancy Louise (O’Brien) Burns, 76, of Stoneham, formerly of Malden passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2019.

Nancy was born in Revere on June 29, 1943 to the late George E. O’Brien and Dorothy L. (Phillips) O’Brien. She grew up and graduated from Malden High School. She was a homemaker and worked for the U.S. Postal Service in South Boston until her retirement in 2004. Nancy enjoyed spending time in Myrtle Beach with friends and family and playing Quick Hits slots at casinos. She was known for her chicken noodle soup. She loved shopping, going to shows and finding the best restaurants .

Nancy was the beloved wife of 55 years to Thomas E. Burns, Sr. Loving mother of Thomas Burns, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Florida, Dorothy (Burns) Barme and her husband Wayne of Wilmington, James Burns of Stoneham and the late Daniel Burns. Caring sister of Donna and her husband Tom Roche, Florence and the late Carl Elliston, Laura and her husband Tom Upton, Michael O’Brien and his wife Karen, and Henry O’Brien and his wife Susan. She is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

Visitation was at the Gately Funeral Home located at 79 W. Foster Street in Melrose on Wednesday July 24, followed by a funeral service. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend.

Family and friends will gather at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park at 185 Lake Street in Peabody on Saturday, July 27 at 11:30 a.m. to inter Nancy’s urn. Immediately following the service there will be a function at Breakaway on Route 1 in Danvers.
